The English Track is designed for young students who do not have sufficient Finnish or Swedish language skills to complete the general upper secondary syllabus in those languages.
Admission criteria
To be eligible for the English Track, you must meet the following criteria:
- No more than three years comprehensive school studies completed (i.e. studies that follow the Finnish national core curriculum for primary and lower secondary (basic) education)
- Residence permit granted for reasons other than studies if you are not a citizen of an EU/EEA member country.
- Good English language skills to be able to complete general upper secondary school studies in English
- Primary and secondary education certificate or equivalent of comprehensive education and an official translation of the certificate if it is not in Finnish or English.
Please note! The performance in the entrance examination is used as the basis for selection; previous academic results are not considered.

Apply during the joint application period 17 February–17 March 2026 at Studyinfo.fi. You can apply to more than one schools with the same application.
Remember to attach the following documents to your application:
- a copy of your residence permit (if you are not an EU or EEA state citizen)
- a copy of comprehensive education certificate obtained abroad and a translation if it is not in Finnish or English.

All applicants will be invited to an entrance exam.
You sit the entrance exam in the school that you chose as the first option in the application form.

What is the exam like?
Instead of testing only the applicant’s English skills, the exam measures the knowledge and skills required for general upper secondary school studies, in general. The exam consists of different sections requiring, for example, mathematical, literary, or other academic skills.
About the exam
- The exam is taken in English.
- The exam takes place in Finland and cannot be completed remotely.
- You sit the entrance exam in the school that you chose as your first option in the application form.
- If you have applied to more than one schools providing general upper secondary education in English, you take only one entrance exam in the school that you chose as the first option in the application form.
Exam date
The national entrance examination for general upper secondary education in English will be held on Tuesday, 21 April 2026, from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm noon.
No alternative exam date will be provided.
How to prepare
The exam is based on the learning contents of the Finnish national syllabus for basic education.
If you did not attach a copy of your comprehensive education certificate obtained abroad and/or residence permit (applicants outside EU and EEA need a residence permit) to your application on Studyinfo.fi, send them via this link by 1 August 2026.
