Small ensembles consisting of musicians from UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra, as well as a trio led by Jani Lehtonen, who plays in the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, together with Teppo Alestalo, will be touring Helsinki's senior centres this year and next. These concert tours give senior centre residents, their loved ones and service centre clients the opportunity to attend high-quality concerts.
It is important that older people are given the opportunity to experience culture even when they may be hindered by mobility difficulties, memory disorders, social barriers or financial reasons. The free concerts allow senior centre residents, their loved ones and service centre clients to share wonderful moments together. Music resonates throughout the body and mind, evoking memories and emotions and warding off feelings of loneliness.

The concerts are inclusive artistic activities
UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra's senior centre concerts are part of the Sydämen soinnut project supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation. It is an inclusive artistic activity that brings musical experiences to those who, for one reason or another, are unable to attend orchestra performances. The Jani Lehtonen Trio and Teppo Alestalo will tour all of Helsinki's senior centres with the support of a grant from the Wihuri Foundation.
The Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra is a symphony orchestra founded in 1882 and consisting of 102 musicians. Its home venue is Musiikkitalo. In addition to weekly symphony concerts and international tours, the orchestra performs in various configurations throughout Helsinki, offers performance opportunities for children and young people and reaches out to special groups through its diverse audience outreach work.
