Night work to start by Myllypuro metro station – one station entrance to be closed on 17 October

A five-storey expansion building that partly extends over the metro track is being built next to Myllypuro Health and Wellbeing Centre. The building will also feature a new metro ticket hall and entrance. The building is expected to be completed in 2028.

Current impacts of the worksite:

  • Noise-generating night work has started near the metro track.
  • In the week starting on 22nd September (week 39):
    • Construction of a temporary pedestrian bridge will start next to the Jauhokuja bridge. The pedestrian bridge will be opened for use in mid-October and the cycling route from the bridge will be removed.
    • Worksite facilities are being installed on the north side of Helsinki Upper Secondary School of Languages.
    • Preparatory construction work will begin on the platform area of the metro station.
  • On 17th October, the entrance to the metro station on the side of Jauhokuja and the Health and Wellbeing Centre will be closed. The Metropolia-side entrance to the station will remain in use.
  • Demolition of the ticket hall on the Jauhokuja side of the metro station is expected to start in the week starting on 20th October (week 43).

Temporary pedestrian bridge to be installed on Jauhokuja

A temporary pedestrian bridge will be built next to the Jauhokuja bridge to allow safe passage throughout the duration of the work.

Jauhokuja bridge can still be crossed by car, although part of the bridge will be fenced off for construction site use. The Health and Wellbeing Centre can be accessed via Jauhokuja, and its parking facilities will be available as usual, except for a few spaces. The parking area behind Liikuntamylly can also be accessed via Jauhokuja bridge.

The cycling route over the Jauhokuja bridge will be closed. The route on Varvasmyllynkuja between the metro station and Liikuntamylly will remain in use.

Bicycles can also be left in the bike parking area at the intersection of Myllypurontie and Jauhokuja. The bike parking spaces in front of the Health and Wellbeing Centre are due to be removed in October.

The entrance to the Myllypuro metro station on the Health and Wellbeing Centre side will be closed on 17 October

The current metro entrance and ticket hall on the Jauhokuja and Health and Wellbeing Centre side will be demolished. The entrance will be closed before the demolition work and will remain closed until the building is completed.

From 17 October the metro platforms can be accessed via Myllyaukio, through the Metropolia-side entrance. The Metropolia-side entrance features escalators and a lift.

Starting in September, preparatory work will be carried out in the platform area, possibly hindering passage through the area.

Noise-generating work will also be carried out at the site at night

The aim is to minimise disturbances caused by the worksite, but the construction work will inevitably generate noise, vibration and dust.

The noisiest work phases will be the installation of pile walls, excavation and pile driving. This work will be carried out in phases until the end of 2025, from Monday to Saturday between 7.00 and 22.00.

Work will have to be carried out at night by the metro track – to ensure smooth metro traffic and occupational safety, among other things. In the coming weeks, noise-generating night work will be carried out on two nights on average between 22.00 and 7.00. Noise-free night work is expected to continue until the end of October.

Work will generally be carried out at the site on weekdays between 7.00 and 18.00. The site will operate within the time limits allowed by the noise permit.

Health services will be available to residents almost normally throughout the construction project.
