Physical activity of a school-aged child

A school-aged child should get at least an hour of physical activity every day. The activity can be divided into several sessions over the course of the day. The important thing is that your child leads a well-rounded active life in a way that suits them well.

Everyday activity and outdoor play are the cornerstones of a child’s physical activity. In other words, the child’s health is supported by walking or cycling to school, going out during breaks at school, being active when spending time with friends, and taking breaks from being sedentary when at home.

Your family’s attitude towards physical activity also has a big influence on your child’s interest and attitude towards exercise. When you exercise, go outdoors and do things as a family, you are also teaching your child that physical activity is a nice part of everyday life. Childhood physical activity habits often last a lifetime.

Exercise hobbies are often a great way to build social skills and make new friends. Goal-oriented or instructed sports are not necessary, however, as long as the child’s everyday life is varied enough and the child otherwise gets enough physical activity.
