How can you move in with us, and how much does it cost?

You can move in with us following an assessment of your service needs. Find out more about how to apply for housing services for the elderly

24-hour service housing covers the care and treatment you need, activities that support your functional capacity, services related to meals, laundry and clothes care, washing and cleaning, as well as services that promote participation and social interaction.

You pay rent as well as a monthly fee based on your net income, to cover the services included in the 24-hour service housing.

What is it like to live at Sinikaisla Group Home? 

You can live your daily life in your own way. We listen to you and take your wishes and abilities into account, and plan your daily routines together so that they feel natural for you. Our multi-disciplinary team will support your physical and mental functional capacity.

Facilities and accessibility 

The Sinikaisla Group Home is located on the fifth and sixth floors of the Madetoja Service Home.

• The service home has two lifts.
• Moving between the areas is easy.
• The floors are accessible, doors are opened using elbow handles, and there are no thresholds.
• The toilet facilities are spacious and accessible.

All of our facilities support a safe and smooth daily life.

Your room – your home 

You will live in a room for 1–2 people, with its own bathroom. The room is your home, and you can decorate it with your own furniture, textiles and important belongings. This makes the environment feel familiar and safe. The group homes have large shared balconies where you can enjoy the warmth of the sun on summer days.

Common areas 

The common lounging room and dining areas of the group home allow you to:

• spend time with others
• participate in joint activities
• meet your loved ones

There is a TV nook near the entrance lobby, and a separate shared room called Onnentupa. You can also spend time together in our restaurant, enjoying a coffee or a meal. A larger space next to the restaurant can also be reserved for festivities, for example. Don’t forget to take a look at the space from time to time, because it hosts periodical art exhibitions. 

Your loved ones are also welcome to use the common areas.

Meals 

We enjoy our meals together in the group home dining area, or you can visit the restaurant downstairs when you wish. We take your meal preferences and your individual needs into consideration, and our staff can assist you with moving and dining, if you need it. Mealtimes are peaceful and unhurried. The meals are served by Palvelukeskus Helsinki. 

Garden and local environment 

The back yard of the Madetoja Service Home is a verdant, fenced area for outdoor activities, with plenty of trees and bushes. Flower beds and planted vegetables and herbs add to the comfort of the area. There are plenty of outdoor furniture, some of which are covered with sunshades or awnings. It is a peaceful and comfortable place to sit in.

What is everyday life like with us? 

Your daily life is shaped according to your own daily routine. The day includes:

• basic care and support
• moments of rest and time to yourself
• opportunities to participate in joint activities

We organise recreational and outdoor activities, for example. You can decide for yourself which activities you’d like to participate in. A printed copy of the weekly programme is posted to the noticeboard of the group home and the wall on the lifts.

We will also listen to your wishes regarding our everyday life, so please bring them up with our staff. 

Information for family members and loved ones 

Your loved ones can visit you at their convenience, as we do not have set visiting hours. You can also use the back yard of the service home with plants and outdoor furniture for spending time together. Your family and friends are welcome to participate in all of our events.

We are well served by public transport, and we have a few free parking spaces, for which a visitor’s parking permit is required. Parking permits are available in the lobby by the lift.

Guests can

• spend time with you in your room or in the common areas
• bring snacks and enjoy them with you
• bring a pet along, but please arrange this with the staff in advance
• visit the restaurant on the entrance floor with you. The restaurant is open Mon-Sat 8-18 (lunch 11.30-13.00). You can find the lunch menu here(Link leads to external service)
• Your loved ones can also take you out for a walk or to visit friends and family. Please let the staff know, either in advance or when you leave.

Personnel and contact information 

Our multi-disciplinary team supports your everyday life.

• Your appointed nurse will be by your side and take care of all your day-to-day needs.
• Practical nurses and nurses ensure your day-to-day care and wellbeing.
• Your doctor is responsible for your medical care.
• A social instructor can help you with matters related to services and life circumstances.
• A physiotherapist organises weekly group sessions at the ward and gym.
• A cultural coordinator organises events at the ward.

You can live at the Sinikaisla Group Home until the end. The staff of the group home and terminal care volunteers will support you and your loved ones during the final stages of life. Your wishes and those of your loved ones will be heard and taken into account even during terminal care.
